Homemade Ranch Seasoning

I’m not going to post a lengthy intro for this.  I’m going to let their ingredients speak for themselves:

Maltodexterin, salt, monosodium glutamate, dried onion, dried garlic, spices, modified food starch, less than 2% of: buttermilk, calcium stearate, natural flavor (soy).


Let’s try my ingredients:

Buttermilk powder (cultured blend of sweet cream, churned buttermilk, sweet dairy whey, and lactic acid), dried parsley, dried dill, onion powder, onion flakes, dried chives, salt, garlic powder and pepper.

No contest, right?

Nothing hidden about this ranch!

Well, I DID forget to add the black pepper in the picture…oops.

Homemade Ranch Seasoning
Approximately 1 TB is equal to a packet of Ranch Dressing MixUse more or less to your tastes.

1/2 cup of dried buttermilk*
1 TB dried parsley
1 tsp dried dill
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp dried onion flakes
1 tsp dried chives
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp black pepper

1.  Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
2.  Store in an airtight container and use as needed.
3.  To make a dip, combine 1 TB with a 2 cup combination of mayo, sour cream, pureed cottage cheese or plain yogurt (regular or Greek), depending on your desired thickness.  Add a splash of milk to thin if you’re using it for a dressing.

*I used Saco brand, from the dried milk aisle of Kroger- From Saco- “We are pleased to inform you that all Saco Foods products and our packaging facility are peanut, tree nut, egg, fish, shellfish and gluten free. Two of our products the Dolci frutta and our Chocolate Chunks, contain lecithin which is soy based.”
For a dairy free seasoning option, omit the buttermilk powder.

    Hey There Jessica,
    Speaking of which, My friend make her own seasoned “crackers”

    She uses CLUB type crackers, adds dry ranch dressing and other things to them, along with red pepper which makes them EXTREMELY HOT for me.

    I was wondering if anyone had any recipe to make a taco type cracker or ranch cracker or anything like that.

      You might do a search for it. I’ve not made them, but I know they are fairly easy. You could even make them with gluten free crackers, maybe a plain one, like Glutino’s, if you needed to!

    I see dried chives in the list, but not in the amounts section – what to do? How much chives, if any, to put?
